Mild
A small bump forms at the big toe joint, which may not be easily noticed by the patient and the skin may appear slightly red.
Moderate
The bump at the big toe joint becomes more visible, and the skin turns red in colour, causing pain or difficulty when wearing shoes or walking.
Severe
A prominent bump that may cause the big toe to overlap the second toe. At this stage, the bunion can cause severe pain, and potentially lead to other foot deformities.
